Greensboro I-73 Shooting Under Investigation Near West Wendover Avenue
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are investigating a deadly shooting that unfolded along Interstate 73 early Sunday morning, leaving one man dead and a woman injured.
According to the Greensboro Police Department, officers were dispatched to I-73 south near the West Wendover Avenue exit after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered 28-year-old Lavon Montreaz Bennett inside a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Bennett was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed.
Authorities also said a woman who was inside the same vehicle appeared to have been shot. She was transported to the hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.
Police confirmed that both victims were found inside the same car, but details surrounding what led up to the shooting remain unclear. No suspects have been identified, and no arrests have been announced.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say additional information will be released as it becomes available.
