Another tragic domestic violence case has rocked Eastern North Carolina after 36-year-old Gareshia Joyner was found shot dead inside her home in Goldsboro. Police say her husband, Kendrick Joyner, pulled the trigger before taking his own life in neighboring Pitt County.
The horror unfolded Monday, July 21, when Goldsboro police were dispatched for a welfare check at Tanglewood Mobile Home Park, located at 3201 Central Heights Road, Lot 105. Inside, they discovered Gareshia Joyner’s lifeless body, killed from an apparent gunshot wound.

Shortly after, authorities received a call about a suspicious vehicle parked off National Avenue near Idlewild Drive, just outside of Greenville in Pitt County. Inside the vehicle, police found 37-year-old Kendrick Joyner dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. While no motive has been officially released, the circumstances point to another devastating case of intimate partner violence that ended in bloodshed.
Neighbors and loved ones are still in disbelief. Gareshia was known to many as a hardworking, loving woman—gone far too soon. “She didn’t deserve this,” one family friend said. “He didn’t just take her life. He took everything from her family too.”
