Gastonia USPS workers phone theft scandal exposed after six-month scheme, police say

GASTONIA, N.C. –The streets of Gastonia are gagging after police say two USPS employees were out here allegedly running their very own “Boost Mobile heist crew” straight out the Scaleybark Road postal warehouse—and they thought they were low with it.

According to investigators, 31-year-old DeSean Hardiman and 20-year-old Elijah Jefferies weren’t delivering much of anything except headaches for customers waiting on their new phones. Police say these two spent six whole months allegedly cracking open packages, snatching brand-new cell phones, and flipping them like a side hustle gone wrong.

Hardiman is sitting on ten felonies, while Jefferies is holding four—all tied to a phone-theft operation police say they ran right under USPS’s nose. Both men are charged with obtaining property by false pretenses, larceny by an employee, and conspiracy.

Police say the two geniuses allegedly took the stolen phones and dumped them in EcoATM kiosks around the city, turning U.S. mail property into quick cash.

But last Wednesday, November 19, Gastonia Police said the games were over.
