Authorities in Garner are actively searching for a suspect wanted for kidnapping in New York who was reportedly spotted in the area on Wednesday night.
According to Garner Police, the incident began when an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with expired tags. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Daveaun Whittle, was found to have an active kidnapping warrant out of New York.
As the officer attempted to detain him, Whittle fled the scene, leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash at the intersection of Fayetteville Road/U.S. 401 and Manor Ridge Drive. After the crash, Whittle exited the vehicle and fled on foot towards a nearby bowling alley, eventually disappearing into the woods.
K-9 units were deployed to track him, but as of late Wednesday night, Whittle remains at large. Authorities have deemed him armed and dangerous due to the nature of his warrant.
