Fayetteville woman Dymond Monroe had a pending speeding ticket on Rose Hill Road—the same road where three E.E. Smith High School students were killed in a tragic car crash.

A 21-year-old Fayetteville woman, Dymond Monroe, who was behind the wheel during the devastating crash that killed three E.E. Smith High School football players,  had a pending speeding ticket from just two months earlier—on the same road where the deadly wreck occurred.

Fayetteville police say excessive speed was a factor in the deadly crash.

Dymond Monroe, 21, the Fayetteville driver in the deadly Rose Hill Road crash, had pending speeding tickets and multiple missed court dates.

According to public records, Monroe was cited by Fayetteville Police on August 2, 2025, for allegedly speeding 51 mph in a 35 mph zone while it was raining in the area of 4823 Rose Hill Road.

Trevor Merritt, 17, Jai’Hyon Elliott, 18, and Nicholas Kole Williams, 17, lost their lives on October 8, 2025, on the same road—just three miles from where Monroe had previously received a speeding ticket.

E.E. Smith High School players Trevor Merritt, 17, Jai’Hyon Elliott, 18, and Nicholas Kole Williams, 17, were killed in a tragic Rose Hill Road crash that left Fayetteville mourning three young Golden Bulls with bright futures ahead.

Monroe, an Army veteran, miraculously survived the wreck but was critically injured and airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Authorities said the crash occurred when Monroe, driving a gray 2024 Honda Civic, with three high school football players  inside, struck a telephone pole on Rose Hill Road, in front of Haymount Presbyterian Church.

Monroe served on active duty in the U.S. Army from June 2023 to January 2025 as a Signal Operations Support Specialist stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. She was discharged as a Private First Class (PFC) , according to information obtained by the Fayetteville Observer.

Court records reveal Monroe was scheduled to appear in court on September 19, 2025, for her August speeding ticket but failed to appear. The case was rescheduled for October 9, 2025—just one day after the fatal crash. She was still hospitalized at that time.

That wasn’t Monroe’s first citation this year. Records also show she was cited by Fayetteville Police on June 12, 2025, for driving with an expired registration plate.

The citation stated Monroe “operate[d] a motor vehicle on a street or highway while displaying an expired registration plate on the vehicle knowing the same to be expired.”

Army veteran Dymond Monroe, a Signal Operations Support Specialist once stationed at Fort Riley, was critically injured in the Rose Hill Road crash.

She missed two court appearances for that case as well—July 25 and August 21, 2025—both before the fatal incident.

The Fayetteville Police Department confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.

Officials have not said whether Monroe will face charges related to the deaths of the three E.E. Smith High School students.

This tragic crash has left the Fayetteville community and E.E. Smith High School mourning the loss of three promising young men whose futures were cut short.

    Good morning Viewers:
We are all heartbroken for the families of the three young men who lost their lives tragically. May God continue to heal and comfort the families. People if you haven’t lost a child there’s nothing to compare to it ! Being angry is a normal emotional reaction, of a human ‘s behavior However. absolutely we can’t understand or comprehend what was this young lady thinking that caused her to have such high rate of speed? We may never hear or know the real truth of the story. The main focus right now is on the three amazing athletes and why? Let’s all of us take a moment to reflect and share our thoughts and feelings in prayer. 🙏🏾 The families need the support right now and after ! I understand it may be difficult and even hard to imagine or think of the survival. “Dymond Monroe ! I can say this with ease and confidence because I was once where the mother and father is with thoughts. I wanted to murder my son’s killer! I couldn’t eat, or even thinking about nothing, my body was numb! We all grieve differently in any situation. As a result, those of us that know the word of prayer speak it and believe in the power of God’s word. Please pray for this young woman that God will see her through if it’s his plan. She can slip into complications that can take her away from the family who loves her unconditionally. Remember our Heavenly Father is a healer and comforter in the time of need. He’s with the families right now in the name of Jesus the Christ. “He will never leave you nor forsaken”
I know it is hard but with Jesus Christ for those who believe we see better days ahead! To the families and friends of these amazing young men may each one of their spirits be remembered in a special positive way . Let their lights shine forever through you ! “ “Gone But Never Forgotten ! Keep the Faith and May God Bless each one of you at the sound of my voice and heart ♥️ Most high Heavenly Father I place this morning that you touch the hearts and souls of your people who are hurting from this grief. Father the families are suffering from this loss. I believe in your strength, and your ability to see everybody through! I thank you in advance Heavenly Father through the precious blood of your son Jesus Christ! Blessings to all!!!! Amen 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾

  3. My goodness, WRAL CHANNEL 5 just reported speeding was part of the wreck. But WRAL 5 left out the driver should not have been driving. The car was illegal to be on the road. This is another reason to avoid WRAL 5. Fake or miss leading news. WRAL 5 keeps on with BS reporting.

    1. I think you meant “misleading”… Furrher, did you even read the article in its entirety? You are the uneducated population tRUMP loves that lack basic comprehension skills, much less can spell/use words appropriately.
