Fayetteville murder suspect killed in gunfight with police, wanted for a murder on Seneca Drive

A man identified by Fayetteville, North Carolina police as the individual responsible for the killing of a 32-year-old man on May 12 on Seneca Drive was fatally killed by law enforcement on Tuesday after a gun battle with police.

The Fayetteville Police Department disclosed the identity of the deceased suspect as 33-year-old Shakoor Quayon Williams. The confrontation ensued when officers sought to execute felony warrants against Williams for charges including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and felony conspiracy in connection with the death of Willie James Russell, 32, on Mother’s Day, as stated in an official press release.

Chief Kemberle Braden reported that Williams barricaded himself inside an apartment on Ivanhoe Court for over three hours before emerging at 1 p.m. and opening fire at three members of the department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team. Additionally, a member of the SBI’s Criminal Apprehension Team was also involved in the exchange of gunfire.

Officials verified that Williams was pronounced dead at the hospital, although witnesses to the shooting claimed he had already passed away at the scene.

A video on social media depict the fatal encounter between Williams and law enforcement, capturing the loud gunshots and the sight of his body collapsing to the ground. Subsequently, Williams was shot multiple times even after displaying signs of movement.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Russell was fatally shot on the early morning of May 12 while walking in the 2000 block of Seneca Drive, with his death confirmed at the scene.

Markeith Shacol Rushing, aged 30, was apprehended on June 12 in connection with the incident and has been formally charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and conspiracy.

Legal documents suggest that Rushing and Williams trailed Russell in a borrowed SUV before the fatal shooting.
