Eno Valley Elementary Principal Resigns

DURHAM, N.C. — Leadership changes are underway at Eno Valley Elementary School after its principal became entangled in a criminal case tied to how school officials handled a reported child abuse incident.

Dr. Tounya Wright will no longer serve as principal following criminal charges that accuse her of interfering with an official investigation. Prosecutors allege Wright failed to provide truthful information during inquiries related to an incident involving a young student, resulting in multiple felony charges, including obstruction of justice and perjury.

Dr. Tounya Wright, principal of Eno Valley Elementary School, resigned following a felony indictment connected to a child abuse investigation.

The case centers on allegations from late 2024 involving a six-year-old girl with autism who was allegedly tied to a chair with a rope by an educator.

According to district officials, Wright has submitted her resignation, which takes effect at the end of January. While she has been removed from her leadership duties, the district confirmed she will remain on paid suspension until her resignation date.

No further details about the ongoing criminal proceedings have been released, and district officials have not yet named a replacement for the school’s leadership.
