DWI Driver Kills Raleigh Man On I-440, Charged With Felony Death
A careless North Carolina driver is now facing serious charges after a deadly overnight crash in Raleigh took the life of a young man.
Courtney Mathis Killed In Fatal DWI Crash On I-440
29-year-old Tia Evans of Cranmoore Court in Raleigh has been charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle after police say she struck 26-year-old Courtney Mathis early Wednesday morning.

The fatal crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 440 near Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. Police say Evans was behind the wheel when she hit Mathis, causing injuries that ultimately led to his death.
Mathis was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers who responded to the scene noticed “signs of impairment” when speaking with Evans during the investigation.
Raleigh Police say the case remains under investigation. Evans is in the Wake County Jail on a $135,000 secured bond.
