Santerius Allen is charged with rape after he allegedly broke into a woman’s home in Charlotte, North Carolina and raped her while her young daughter was inside the home.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department announced that on Wednesday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., 32-year-old Santerius Allen allegedly unlawfully entered a residence on Chilvary Drive by breaking in through a back window and allegedly sexually assaulted a woman.
Authorities stated that the woman’s teenage daughter, who was present in the home, promptly dialed 911.
Upon their arrival, officers reported hearing screams and swiftly entered the residence, apprehending Allen.
Allen is facing charges of second-degree forcible rape, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree forced sex offense, breaking and entering, assault on a female, and sexual battery.
During a recent court appearance, the accused expressed a desire to represent himself, but the judge appointed the public defender’s office to advise him of his rights.
The victim, who is married and has two children, was at home with her 15-year-old daughter when the incident occurred. Court records indicate that the woman’s husband and other child had just left the residence.
Attorneys involved in the case revealed that at one point, Allen allegedly attempted to coerce the victim into the bathroom, but she managed to escape and run to the front door.
The victim sustained potential broken ribs, according to law enforcement.
Who is Santerius Allen?
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police disclosed that Santerius Allen has a lengthy criminal history, including other assault and violent crimes. The police department has consistently advocated for keeping him incarcerated until his trials.
Records from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction show that Allen had been in and out of jail multiple times from 2015 to 2022. In 2018, he was granted parole, but it was subsequently revoked, leading to his return to jail. He was paroled for a second time in July 2022 and remained out of jail until his parole ended in March 2023.
Allen’s criminal record includes charges of possession of stolen goods, assault on an officer, malicious conduct by a prisoner, and simple assault. Police stated that they were not aware of any previous sexual charges against him.
He is currently being held in jail without bond.
