Co-Pastor Cassandra Pope Rebukes Woman Mid-Worship: “I Just Don’t Like Fake Stuff”

Houston Church Co-Pastor Cassandra Pope Gets Dragged After Co-Pastor’s Public Petty Rebuke

A Houston, Texas church, Macedonia Worship Center, is getting a lot of backlash after the co-pastor, Cassandra Pope, came right out of worship with some BS—openly rebuking a woman and then calling her fake to her face right in the pulpit after high worship, where everybody appeared to be in the spirit.

The scary-looking co-pastor, dressed in chessboard colors, told the woman that she didn’t like the hug the woman gave her Sunday morning (Aug.7).

“I am so sorry, but I want to make a correction on this morning,” Co-Pastor Cassandra said. “I was speaking with Mahoganee this morning, and Mahoganee kind of gave me a different hug than she normally does, amen.”

Houston’s Co-Pastor Cassandra Pope sparks outrage after publicly calling a woman “fake” during worship service in a petty pulpit moment gone viral.

The messy co-pastor went on to say that they weren’t going to have that kind of energy in the body of Christ.

“The Word of God tells us that open rebuke is better than secret love, so we can’t have that up in this house this morning, amen,” Co-Pastor Cassandra told Mahoganee to her face. “So, if you want to go ahead and do what you got to do today, then we gonna do that… we tried to talk about it, but you didn’t want to talk about it.”

Co-Pastor Cassandra went on to say that she was just going to expose it:

“And let you know I know how you feel, amen. So we just gonna get rid of all of that.”

It sounded like the co-pastor was basically telling Mahoganee if she’s going to continue with them funny hugs, she can kick rocks with flip-flops.

After giving Mahoganee an ultimatum—if she needed to leave, she could—but if she wanted to stay and sing for the Lord, she could do that too. Not even a second after she so-called rebuked Mahoganee, Co-Pastor Cassandra turned around to her hell-praising church that she didn’t like fake stuff.

“I just don’t like fake stuff, amen,” Co-Pastor Cassandra said to the congregation. “And God has told me to clean up His house, amen. We not gonna have that kind of behavior in God’s house, because this is the house of the Lord, and we gon’ praise God up in here.”

Mahoganee Appears Hurt — Then Speaks Out

Moments later, Mahoganee could be seen hugging her fellow praise and worship singers, seemingly hurt by the co-pastor’s actions.

But that wasn’t the end of it.

The senior pastor, and husband of Co-Pastor Cassandra, Pastor Walter Pope, doubled down and agreed with his wife—stating that even if his wife was wrong, she has to take up that wrong with God.

Mahoganee Breaks Her Silence in a Facebook Post

In response to the video circulating, Mahoganee made a post on Facebook about the incident, saying:

“The way that some church leaders use scripture to demean and humiliate people needs to be studied. This is me getting fired publicly from a church that I served for the past 2 years up until yesterday. I was on my way out the door due to previous instances, but I guess she couldn’t wait.”

  1. I can’t imagine, this Lady’s embarrassment and feelings of betrayal. God’s house is suppose to be a house of healing. Your interpretation of a hug, should’ve been a personal conversation between you two Lady’s ALONE. Not the whole church’s business. REALLY WOMAN!

  2. To Mahoganee, I pray that you are stronger today than Sunday. Scriptures say that all things work together for the good of those who love God. Keep your head lifted and be encouraged. The devil comes in all forms. I would like to invite you to join us in worship. Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church 8775 Flagship Drive Houston, Texas Pastor Dennis Jones. I admire you for the way you carried yourself as a woman and a woman of God. I will continue to pray for your strength so that this does not deter you from the faith of God. God loves you, and so do I.

  3. The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy. C. Pop,e what you did was absolutely wrong. The way you carried out in public was wrong. C. Pope, whatever you were going through on this Sunday, you allowed the devil to use you and took it out on the innocence of this young lady, all because of the way she hugged you. Until you make it right with God and this young lady, the scripture you used on her is the same you need to use on yourself. You were wrong to do a child of God this way, and then for your pastor and your husband to agree with you is wrong. You have set up a president that you may not get genuine hugs anymore because of your behavior. Be careful with how you treat people.

  4. I’m wondering if there is a hierarchy in this denomination/ministry. It seems in this day most church “ministers”, “pastors” etc do not have any type of organizational overseer that maintains accountability for how a church is functioned not only in preaching, teaching, the Word of God but in the persons appointed/elected to pastor a church. Is there a Bishop, higher level pastor or even an older more established pastor to counsel ? There are a lot of “bootlegged” “people” starting churches/ministries for their own egos not necessarily being “called”. Just so they can run on their own not being accountable to anyone let alone the God they claim to serve. Someone should pull both pastor & wife aside, better yet just sit them down. Get remedial pastoral training, something because this should not be accepted as pastoral behavior on a lot of levels – some mentioned in these posts.

  5. Kudos to Mahogany for not stooping down to the Co-Pastor’s level. We, in Ministry, all make mistakes, but we should be big enough to admit it. Co-Pastor owes Mahogany an apology.

  6. The co pastor was wrong call herself shaming someone in front of other’s is not of God, if the pastor agree he is worse off than his wife this is the reason people don’t came to church using God’s name in vain, the sister did right to leave, how could one sit in worship service after this foolery?

  7. Such a shame that someone who is suppose to be about love as Christ loves the church, feels it’s ok to humiliate, shame and berate another person in front of others. I hope the Church realizes what they actually witnessed and how Pastor C. Pope was used by the devil. If you belong to this congregation I would run and not look back.
