Steven Wheeler, 26, known in Charlotte’s hip-hop scene as “DaOnly Stevo,” was shot and killed outside the Brooklyn Nightclub and Lounge on North Caldwell Street early Sunday morning, September 21, around 12:45 a.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Police say the deadly gunfire broke out after a heated confrontation between two groups. Stevo was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Stand for Stevo”
On Wednesday, Stevo’s mother Dawn Wheeler took to Facebook, filming an emotional video while parked outside a funeral home where she was making arrangements for her son’s homegoing.
“I’m asking all of you to flood social media,” Dawn said tearfully. “No mother should have to go through this—ever, ever.”
Fighting through her pain, she described her son as loving and full of life.
“It’s devastating. My heart won’t let me rest,” she added. “I want you to stand for Stevo and justice for Steven, my baby.”
Brooklyn Nightclub & Lounge: 3 Deaths Since July
Stevo’s killing marks the third homicide on the property of Brooklyn Nightclub and Lounge since July.
Despite its location in the bustling Uptown district, the club has been repeatedly associated with violent altercations—now turning fatal far too often.
As of Thursday, no arrests have been made in Stevo’s murder.
