Charlotte Police arrest boy for “reckless driving” on a bicycle.

A video circulating on TikTok out of Charlotte, North Carolina has gone viral after it captured a young boy being arrested by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police in Uptown Charlotte over the weekend. According to officers in the video, the child was being arrested for allegedly riding his bicycle recklessly through the streets.

Bystanders Questioned The Arrest

The video, originally posted by TikTok user @Scooterbless, shows the boy in handcuffs sitting on the sidewalk before police placed him in a patrol car.

Scooterbless told The North Carolina Beat that he was walking through Uptown Saturday afternoon around 4 or 5 p.m. when he came across the boy in handcuffs.

In a second video, another bystander could be seen defending the boy, engaging with one of the officers who admitted on camera that the child was being arrested for reckless driving on a bicycle.

The man filming questions the necessity of the arrest and suggests the child should have just received a warning.

But the officer responds:

“That’s not how it works.”

The man continues pressing the officer, asking:

“What crime did the kid commit?”

The officer responds:

“Reckless driving.”

This video has stirred up concern on social media with many questioning why a minor was handcuffed and arrested for something that, to many, seemed like a situation that warranted a warning — not an arrest.

  1. Where is the video of how the boy was riding his bike recklessly ? The article and many other articles on this arrest, make it sound like the boy was just ridding his bike and bamm he was arrested. There is video of how the boy was riding his bike. He was doing wheelies down the street, head on with cars and the dodging them at the last minute. If this isn’t illegal (and it is), its just plain stupid.

This is disgusting.. .. when have you ever witnessed another child of Caucasian persuasion arrested for riding a bike?? .. appears obvious why he was targeted ..

This is repulsive and shows the true colors of this establishment
. Charlottesville all the way .. never saw a kid riding a dirt bike in cuffs .. skin color was different .. funny .. saw no helmet on the kid and that would of been understandable for a warning .. guess Trump words of young black kids being “criminals” even young is the book they are following .. you should be ashamed omg .. fired

    1. It was not the lack of helmet the resulted in the arrest. There is video of how the boy was riding his bike. He was doing wheelies down the street, head on with cars and the dodging them at the last minute. If this isn’t illegal (and it is), its just plain stupid.

  3. Jarring and sad. With all the black and brown kids going missing it leaves me to wonder. I am 47 and never heard there was a law to arrest a kid like this. I’m sore there is some real crime to fight. Thank God these men filmed and were there and attempted to notify his family.

  4. That child looks horrified. This is why children don’t trust police. He looks under 13 years of age . They had no business evening questioning him.
