Charlotte Man Accused of Shooting at Amazon Vans and Causing Head-On Crash in Lenoir County

A shocking series of shootings unfolded Sunday morning, March 23, when Lonneil Cordarius Mason, a 34-year-old Charlotte resident, allegedly opened fire on multiple Amazon delivery vans before causing a head-on collision on N.C. Highway 11 in Lenoir County.

According to law enforcement, the chaos began around 10:15 a.m. this past Sunday when Mason, driving a 2011 white BMW, reportedly fired shots at two Amazon vans traveling on Felix Harvey Parkway near Kinston Regional Jetport. Shortly afterward, a third Amazon vehicle was targeted on N.C. Highway 11.

Miraculously, none of the Amazon delivery drivers were injured during the shootings.

Approximately 15 minutes later, Mason was seen traveling northbound in the southbound lane of N.C. Highway 11. During this wrong-way drive, he struck three vehicles:

– The first vehicle sustained damage to its side mirror.
– The second—a head-on collision—involved an SUV carrying two women.
– The third vehicle was a pickup truck hauling lawn mowers.

Mason was airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, where he remains in critical but stable condition. The two women from the SUV are also hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released their names.

After the crash, investigators discovered a .45 caliber handgun and an AR-15 pistol in Mason’s BMW. In addition, they found both cocaine and fentanyl in the vehicle and on Mason’s person.

He now faces a multitude of felony charges, including:

– Three counts of attempted first-degree murder
– Three counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle
– Possession of a firearm by a felon
– Possession with intent to sell or deliver Schedule I controlled substances

Lonneil Cordarius Mason, a 34-year-old from Charlotte, NC, is accused of shooting at Amazon vans and causing a head-on crash.

Law enforcement officials say additional charges may follow as the investigation progresses.

Mason has an extensive criminal record. He previously served over 11 years in prison following a 2007 conviction for second-degree murder and breaking and entering. He was released in December 2020.
