Scott Waybright, a now-former administrator at Charlotte Country Day, has been granted a controversial $50,000 unsecured bond following his arrest on December 6, 2024, on felony peeping charges.
The charges, which are as serious as they come, involve five counts of possessing photographic images obtained in violation of the peeping statute, and five counts of secretly using a photographic device to view another’s body or undergarments.
Charlotte Country Day School is a private school in Charlotte, North Carolina, with classes in grades Junior Kindergarten – 12. According to the school, Waybright was the Assistant Head of School.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Waybright was released from the same day of his arrest, stirring up questions about the justice system’s leniency. An unsecured bond of $50,000 means that Waybright only needs to promise to pay the bond if he fails to appear in court—hardly a deterrent for someone facing such severe accusations.
It seems that even a person accused of such a despicable crime can still walk free while awaiting trial.
Waybright was terminated from his position at Charlotte Country Day School just four days earlier, on December 2. The private institution, known for its high academic standards, clearly acted swiftly once the allegations surfaced, but why the courts would allow a man charged with such a disturbing crime to roam free remains unknown.
