Rocky Mount Caregiver Busted After Nash County Deputies Find Drugs In Group Home, Patients Inside

Rocky Mount caregiver arrested for sneaking drugs into group home where patients live in North Carolina facility

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – A man who was supposed to be taking care of vulnerable people is now sitting in the Nash County Detention Center with no bond after deputies say they found a whole trap operation running out of a group home on Nashville Road.

According to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, deputies pulled up to the house around 10 p.m. Tuesday after getting multiple complaints that drugs were being sold out of the residence.

When they got there, they say it was exactly what the streets had been talking about.

Deputies: Caregiver Tried To Flush The Work

Deputies say once they had probable cause, they secured a search warrant for the home. That’s when 40-year-old Danny Lee Lawrence Jr. allegedly tried to pull a classic move — rushing to the bathroom to flush the dope.

Nash County deputies arrested caregiver Danny Lee Lawrence Jr. after he allegedly tried to flush cocaine, marijuana, and codeine during a group home raid. He now faces trafficking, patient abuse, and multiple drug charges.

According to deputies, Lawrence was caught in the act trying to flush drugs down the toilet and was immediately taken into custody.

But the situation got even worse once they started clearing the house.

Patients With Cognitive Disabilities Found Inside

While searching the home, deputies discovered three patients with cognitive disabilities inside the group home.

All three were checked out by medical personnel and, thankfully, were found to be in good physical health. Even so, Nash County Adult Protective Services was called in to step in for the patients, since the person paid to care for them was allegedly busy playing drug dealer instead.

According to arrest warrants, deputies say Lawrence had 471.8 grams of cocaine, 184 grams of marijuana, and eight pints of codeine.
