Car pulled up beside another vehicle and shot and killed a 20-year-old in a drive-by shooting in Durham

A fatal incident occurred on Saturday involving a drive-by shooting at the junction of Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road in Durham, resulting in the death of one individual.

According to Durham Police, at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the 3600 block of Keystone Place. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Ricky Orlando Nichols Jr., a 20-year-old resident of Durham, inside a vehicle in the parking lot with a gunshot wound.

Reportedly, Nichols Jr. was situated in a white sedan at the intersection of Dearborn Drive and Old Oxford Road when another vehicle pulled up alongside and discharged multiple rounds into the passenger side of the sedan. The suspected vehicle then fled the area, while the driver of the white sedan drove to Keystone Place, parked the vehicle, and fled on foot.

Nichols Jr. was subsequently transported by EMS to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
