Big Ed’s Shooting: Two Men Charged After Mother’s Day Chaos
The Big Ed’s shooting on Mother’s Day has people in Raleigh side-eyeing their breakfast spots a little differently this week. Two men—23-year-old Alexander Barnes and one-eye 51-year-old Jermaine Mitchell—are now facing serious charges after a wild, chair-swinging, gun-blasting brawl broke out inside Big Ed’s on Falls of Neuse.
According to Raleigh police, the Big Ed’s shooting resulted in three people being injured during what was supposed to be a peaceful Sunday brunch. But instead of biscuits and bacon, witnesses got shots fired and a beatdown.
Jermaine Mitchell —who, according to social media detectives and his own mugshot, looks like he might only have one good eye left, allegedly hit another man with a chair while Alexander Barnes allegedly threw punches and fired off three rounds inside the restaurant.
Police say both men share an address in Wake Forest, though it’s unclear how they’re connected—relatives, roommates, or just crazy friends.
Barnes is charged with assault on three women, and two of those victims share a last name with the man Mitchell reportedly struck with the chair. Sounds like this may have been a family feud that turned into a felony.
Out of the three injured, two were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a third—a Big Ed’s assistant manager—suffered a graze wound but is expected to be okay, according to the restaurant’s owner.
