Austin Lilley accused of shooting brother Joshua Lilley is facing serious charges after a violent altercation in Pitt County resulted in multiple gunshot wounds. The 27-year-old Ayden resident was arrested Friday, May 9, 2025, following a reported domestic incident between the two siblings.
Austin Lilley Accused of Shooting Brother at Ayden Home
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call around 1:30 p.m. Friday concerning gunshots at a residence on East Hanrahan Road. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Joshua Lilley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. His brother, Austin Lilley, was also at the scene and initially claimed that a handgun had “accidentally discharged” twice during a fight between the two.
Both brothers reportedly had superficial injuries, suggesting a physical confrontation occurred before the shooting. Joshua Lilley was immediately transported to ECU Health Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Charges Filed Against Austin Lilley
As of Friday evening, Austin Lilley was formally charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was detained at the Pitt County Detention Center under a $150,000 secured bond. He has since posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the full circumstances leading up to the incident. Officials have not ruled out additional charges, and more details are expected as the case progresses.
