RALEIGH, N.C. — Police say 42-year-old Donte Cortez Young is accused of killing 36-year-old Tyrone Vandyke during a shooting that unfolded Saturday night at the Walnut Trace Apartments.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers rushed to the 1800 block of Walnut View Road — near Rock Quarry and Cross Link roads — just after 8 p.m. on April 18 after reports of gunfire.
When they arrived, they found Vandyke outside the apartment complex suffering from a gunshot wound.
Vandyke was transported to WakeMed, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators say the shooting wasn’t random. Authorities revealed that Vandyke and Young knew each other.
Police say Young was detained at the scene without incident and was allegedly found with a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.
He was taken in for questioning — and by late Saturday night, he was officially charged with murder.
Young is now locked up inside the Wake County Detention Center and is expected to face a judge for the first time on Monday, April 20.
