Monroe father accused of abusing baby is causing outrage online after a disturbing video surfaced.
MONROE, N.C. — A video originally recorded in November 2023 is now circulating across social media after being recently posted by the child’s mother, Kenyatta Little. The footage allegedly shows a man — identified as Cornelius Jamal Barnes, also known as “Long Way” — appearing to physically abuse a baby.
In the graphic video, the small child can be seen struggling underneath the weight of Barnes, who appears to be holding the baby down while lying across the child’s body. At one point, the man is seen with his arms folded while positioned on top of the infant, restricting movement as the child attempts to get up.
The man is then seen striking the baby on the buttocks before appearing to use a closed fist to hit the child.
MOTHER SPEAKS OUT — CLAIMS POLICE “DID NOTHING”
After backlash erupted online, Kenyatta Little took to social media to defend her decision to post the video – and claims her family asked her to remove it. She claimed that law enforcement had already been involved — but no action was taken.
According to Little, police previously responded to her home regarding the situation but allegedly told her “he safe.”
WHY NOW?
While the footage is now gaining traction, sources tell The North Carolina Beat that the two-year-old video was only posted after Little discovered Barnes was allegedly involved with someone else.
It also appears the two had prior court issues. Back in August of last year, court documents show that Little filed to evict Barnes from a home they shared, telling the court:
“The defendant is not trustworthy to pay bills on time, or sometimes at all. He has a gambling addiction. I have given him 30 days to move out.”
However, when it came time for the court hearing, neither Little nor Barnes showed up. As a result, her eviction claim against Barnes was dismissed.
The North Carolina Beat has reached out to the Monroe Police Department for comment regarding the incident, including whether an investigation was ever conducted and if the case will be reopened now that the video is public.
