A deadly Dunn Crosswalk crash has left a 31-year-old pedestrian dead after he was struck while legally crossing with the walk signal in downtown Dunn.
DUNN, N.C. – A pedestrian who was crossing the street in Dunn, North Carolina, was struck by a vehicle — and sadly didn’t survive.
Authorities say 31-year-old Aaron Andrew Freda of Erwin was crossing the street in the crosswalk while the pedestrian signal displayed “WALK.”

But investigators say a driver failed to yield.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. on February 20 at the busy intersection of East Broad Street and Clinton Avenue along U.S. 301 in Dunn.
Freda suffered severe head injuries and was first taken to Betsy Johnson Hospital before being airlifted to WakeMed in Raleigh as doctors fought to save his life.
But after four days in critical condition, Freda tragically passed away on February 24.
Now, charges have been filed.
Authorities say 83-year-old I.J. McNeil of Fayetteville has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Warrants allege McNeil failed to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian who was legally inside the crosswalk.

McNeil was arrested in connection with the incident and later released on a $5,000 unsecured bond, according to records.
