A Raeford man arrested for stealing dogs is facing multiple felony charges after an overnight shed break-in in Red Springs ended with the homeowner chasing him down and holding him until deputies arrived.
RAEFORD, NC — A Hoke County man is behind bars after an overnight shed break-in turned into a chase that ended with the suspect being caught by the homeowner himself.
According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called out around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 5 to the 1800 block of Balfour Road in Red Springs after a resident reported someone had broken into his shed and stolen three dogs.
Investigators say the victim realized the dogs were missing and moments later, his sister spotted a man running through their yard with one of the dogs in his arms. The victim immediately took off after him, caught up, and managed to hold the suspect down until deputies arrived.
The suspect was identified as Christopher La’Ron David.
Authorities say David was taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries he had already sustained before law enforcement arrived on scene. Once doctors cleared him, he was transported to the Hoke County Detention Center.
David has since been formally charged with felony breaking and/or entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and three counts of felony larceny of a dog.
The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active as detectives continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the break-in.
