The individual operating a tractor-trailer transporting orange juice that crashed into two SUVs and another tractor-trailer carrying eggs, resulting in the deaths of five individuals in Wilson, North Carolina on Wednesday, has been charged and given a bond amount of $25,000.
Tractor-trailer crashed into two SUVs
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that a truck carrying oranges and orange juice crashed into two SUVs and another truck carrying eggs, as well as a third truck carrying sand. The truck transporting oranges caught fire and was destroyed, while the truck carrying eggs was forced off the road into a ditch.
The wreck happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, close to Mile Marker 113 in Lucama, as reported by ABC11. It involved three tractor-trailers and two SUVs.
Las Vegas Truck Driver caused I-95 fatal crash
North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated that the tractor-trailer driver, Charles Haskell, caused the crash and has been charged with five counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
On Thursday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol released the identities of the five victims killed in the crash. Two of the victims inside a Chevy Tahoe were 72-year-old William Tucker and 66-year-old Elizabeth Tucker from Hephzibah, Georgia.
The three victims in a Toyota Rav-4 were from North Carolina. They are 68-year-old Edward Davis of Greenville, NC, 69-year-old Martha Davis of Greenville, NC, and 80-year-old Linda Whitehurst of Robersonville, NC.
Officials said speed was a factor in the crash.
