3 killed in a wrong-way crash in Johnston County, police said both drivers were drinking

A wrong-way fatal car collision occurred in Johnston County early Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of three people.

The incident took place at approximately 2 a.m. on the eastbound lane near Stevens Chapel Church Road, just outside Pine Level.

How did the wrong-way crash happen?

The crash involved a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by Cameron Paige Yones, 43, of Goldsboro, traveling in the wrong direction in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 70, colliding with a 2017 Ford F-150 operated by 21-year-old William Levi McClung of Princeton, who was accompanied by 53-year-old Mark Ashley Braswell, also from Princeton, both of whom also lost their lives in the accident.

Authorities reported that both Yones and McClung were intoxicated at the time of the collision, and none of the occupants in either vehicle were wearing seatbelts.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation.
