A 15-year-old individual from Raleigh, North Carolina is facing trial as an adult for the homicide of 15-year-old Delvin Ferrell. The incident occurred on November 27 when Tyquan General, who was 14 at the time, reportedly stabbed Ferrell, resulting in injuries to another student.
The Wake County District Attorney filed juvenile petitions against General on November 28 and December 5 for charges of first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause serious harm.
Following a decision by the juvenile court judge to transfer the case to Superior Court for General to be tried as an adult, his family appealed this ruling. However, on May 23, a superior court judge denied the family’s request to maintain the case within the juvenile court system.
The tragic event took place at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School, prompting a Code Red lockdown after General allegedly attacked two students, resulting in Ferrell’s death.
Fight break out prior to deadly stabbing
According to Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson, a physical altercation took place before the stabbing incident. However, she did not provide specific details regarding the timing of the altercation, whether it occurred earlier in the day or immediately before General allegedly stabbed his initial victim in the back.
Based on our review of two videos, one of them shows General and another student outside the gym door. In the video, a student wearing a hoodie strikes General in the face, prompting General to reportedly stab the student multiple times in the back with a knife.
Subsequently, additional high school students intervene and confront General in the school gymnasium, leading to General allegedly stabbing another student.
Furthermore, we conducted an interview with a young woman and her mother, who have pressed charges against General’s mother, Cherelle Tiera McLaughlin.
According to the interview, Cherelle and her family are reputed in Raleigh, North Carolina, for bringing weapons to physical altercations and for inciting her children to engage in fights with other individuals.
