The Greensboro police and the family of 37-year-old Tyrek Burton are shedding light on the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding his murder on what should have been the happiest day of his life—his wedding day. Authorities now believe that this senseless act of violence was sparked by a road rage incident.
On Saturday evening, just before 9 PM, officers from the Greensboro Police Department rushed to Barber Park Drive, responding to a call about a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Tyrek in the parking lot, injured from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Tyrek died at the scene.
Family says Tyrek Burton was ‘followed’
His family recounted the ‘horror’ that unfolded. They revealed to reporters that he had left the venue to “retrieve something” when he was pursued by a man who accused him of cutting him off in traffic. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect confronted Tyrek, demanding to know who had passed him at a nearby stop sign.
According to MyFox8.com, Tyrek’s sister, Brittany, recounted the devasating moment, saying she could hear her brother responding, “Who was in the car? Who just passed him at the stop sign? If I did, I’m sorry,” just before the assailant opened fire, taking Tyrek’s life in front of his new bride, Kiara.
Brittany said that her brother had never met the man who shot him, stating:
“My brother didn’t know this man at all, They never met. He didn’t ask him what his name was. They never shook hands. This was a complete random stranger, and he shot him in cold blood.”
Earlier reports from local news suggest that Tyrek was shot at least 15 times. After the deadly shooting, the suspect fled the scene, and the police are diligently working the details of this tragic incident. As the investigation continues, no suspects have been identified, leaving the family in the dark and seeking answers.
The Burton family is urging anyone with information that could lead to the identification of the shooter to come forward and help bring justice for Tyrek.

Friends stating that this sister said on her Facebook page in comment she wasn’t there. Now she is saying she was. I honestly don’t believe this was road rage. The wife told him to go on without her to house she would ride with sister there. Ten minutes later she called him to turn around to come back and get her. Authorities really need to look more into her. They need to tell the truth
Apparently it was captured on a camera outside the venue, so whatever happened the police were able to view the video. Stop making up things in your head – conspiracy theorists need to stop with the misinformation based upon things they know nothing about. Any time you state “I honestly…” means you don’t know a damn thing and that right there should give you pause before hitting ‘post’ and poisoning us with your empty headed assumptions.
I pray they quickly apprehend this arrogant coward & he’s quickly punished to the fullest extent of the law.
