A street fight that escalated into a shootout in South Memphis resulted in the death of one woman, according to local reports.
Footage of the fight, showing a woman holding a gun and a man allegedly shooting her, was captured on Facebook Live and has since gone viral. According to the police, three others were injured, and two people are in custody.
Memphis police said the shooting occurred in the 1300 block of Quinn Avenue in South Memphis just before 7 p.m. on Thursday night. When first responders arrived on the scene, numerous people had gunshot wounds, according to WREG 3 Memphis.
Police identified the woman killed as Tamara Plummer. According to Memphis police, Plummer died at the scene.
Je’on Davis was identified by witnesses as the person who shot Plummer, resulting in her death. He is charged with first-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. According to court records, Davis is also listed in an affidavit as one of the people who was shot, according to the outlet.
Davis is in custody without bond.
Another woman, Destiny Plummer, the daughter of the victim, was also charged with Reckless Endangerment with a Deadly Weapon. She bonded out of jail on Friday morning after posting bail.
Local reports indicate that Tamara Plummer resided in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred. The males seen in the now-viral video were shown pulling up to her home with their children to confront Tamara’s children.
A group of six to eight children were fighting while adults stood around them, occasionally intervening, while others stood by and filmed. One woman was seen holding a gun, pointing it in the air. Subsequently, a man approached her, aimed his gun, and fired several shots at close range, causing her to collapse.
Witnesses told WREG 3 Memphis that Tamara was about to fire into the air to stop the fight when Davis shot his gun, hitting her in the stomach. Another video shows two men walking toward the group of people fighting. One of them was holding a sword, while the other had a handgun.
Davis told investigators that his daughters were fighting with other children in the neighborhood when he approached Plummer, who was in the center of the fight. An affidavit revealed that Davis admitted shooting Tamara three times, then left and threw the weapon in a nearby yard.
According to him, an unknown person gave him the firearm, although police say video shows him grabbing it from his SUV. In 2016, Davis was convicted of aggravated battery in Kansas City, Kansas. After the woman was shot, a video shows another woman picking up a gun and firing several shots in the direction of Davis. Davis was struck, along with two other people.
