A Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged after police said the man told investigators that “God told” him to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany at the Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock. The suspect is 26-year-old Bernard Junior Polite.
Authorities said on Sunday around 1:00 p.m., Polite allegedly walked into the church and attempted to shoot Pastor Germany while he was preaching the Word of God. According to investigators, the gun the suspect was using had jammed, which allowed a congregation member to jump in and subdue the suspect with the help of the pastor, who both subdued and disarmed the suspect.
“I’m thankful to God that I’m still here because he definitely pulled the trigger,” Pastor Germany told ABC News.
Pastor Germany told the outlet that the suspect smiled at him before he tried to shoot him. He said as he began to preach, all of a sudden, from his left side he saw Polite move from the back to the front of the church. The pastor said he sat in the front corner of the church and smiled at him.
Moments later, Pastor Germany said “all of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointing right at me.”
Deceased man found dead inside suspect’s home
Police said that after they took Polite into custody, they searched his home on Sunday night and found a deceased man who had been shot to death inside. The victim has not yet been identified.
Polite was arraigned on Monday on attempted homicide charges. However, no charges have been filed yet for the deceased man found inside his home.
