A 19-year-old student from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is facing a series of criminal charges after allegedly breaking into student apartments at North Carolina State University in Raleigh and stealing food while residents were asleep.

According to arrest warrants, Luke Matthew Wilkinson, a first-year student at UNC-Chapel Hill, is accused of unlawfully entering two apartments at University Towers on Friendly Drive around 3 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Authorities say Wilkinson allegedly stole two granola bars from one of the units, where female students were inside asleep at the time. The incident has raised serious concerns about student safety in the off-campus housing complex, which accommodates nearly 900 students.





Multiple Charges Filed

Wilkinson is facing a slew of charges, including:

  • First-degree burglary

  • Second-degree burglary

  • Larceny after breaking and entering

  • Possession or manufacture of a fraudulent ID

  • Resisting a public officer

  • Underage alcohol consumption

He was released on a $30,000 secured bond and is expected to appear in Wake County Court on May 8.
