Trump Sues BBC, Claiming Network Manipulated His Jan. 6 Speech in Documentary
Washington, D.C. — On Monday, President Donald Trump filed a massive defamation lawsuit against the BBC, accusing the British broadcaster of intentionally manipulating footage from his Jan. 6, 2021 speech in a documentary that aired just days before the 2024 election.
Trump Sues BBC For Defamation
According to court filings, Trump is coming for $10 BILLION — $5 billion for defamation and another $5 billion for allegedly violating Florida’s trade practices law. The suit was filed in the Southern District of Florida and stretches 33 pages long, packed with accusations that the BBC knowingly crossed the line.
What Set Trump Off?
At the center of the lawsuit is a BBC “Panorama” documentary that aired in the U.K., focusing heavily on Trump’s words and actions leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Trump’s attorneys allege the BBC spliced together two separate parts of the same speech, creating what they call a false and misleading narrative that portrayed Trump as inciting violence — something they strongly deny.
The complaint accuses the BBC of producing a:
“false, defamatory, deceptive, disparaging, inflammatory, and malicious depiction” of President Trump.
“Intentionally Misled Viewers”
Trump’s legal team claims the network knowingly edited the footage in a way that distorted the context of his remarks at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., before the unrest even began.
In a fiery statement, a spokesman for Trump’s legal team didn’t hold back, accusing the BBC of:
“A long pattern of deceiving its audience in coverage of President Trump — all in service of its own leftist political agenda.”
The BBC has not yet issued a detailed response.
