Transylvania County storm tragedy
A powerful storm that swept through the region in the early hours of Sunday, March 16, 2025, resulted in a heartbreaking loss as two young brothers lost their lives when a massive tree fell onto their home.
At approximately 3:38 a.m., Connestee Fire Rescue and Transylvania County EMS rushed to Okies Drive in Brevard following reports of a tree collapsing onto a residence with children trapped inside. Upon arrival, responders found a single-wide trailer split in half by a massive uprooted tree measuring about three feet in diameter.
Three family members managed to escape the destruction unscathed and informed first responders that two children remained trapped in the bedroom. Firefighters worked tirelessly to reach the boys, identified as 11-year-old Joshua Leviskia and 13-year-old Josiah Leviskia. Tragically, both had succumbed to their injuries.

Joshua and Josiah were beloved students at Brevard Middle School, where they were known for their bright spirits and passion for playing the flute. Their mother described them as wonderful children who loved music and brought joy to those around them.
During the rescue efforts, one firefighter sustained a minor back injury and was treated and released from a local hospital. The Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina news Medical Examiner’s Office have launched an investigation into the incident to assess the full extent of the storm’s damage and potential safety concerns.
A GoFundMe has been set up for the family if anyone would like to support.
