Teenage girl shot at Greater Hedges and Highway Evangelical Church

According to MEDIC, the shooting occurred just before 12:45 p.m. at Greater Hedges and Highway Evangelical Church on Nobles Avenue off West Boulevard.

The 17-year-old girl is expected to be okay, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police reported that a 14-year-old brought the gun in, and it accidentally fired, striking the 17-year-old, as reported by WSOCTV. Police have not said how the 14-year-old came into possession of the gun in the first place.

While the shooting is being investigated as an accident, the 14-year-old is charged with possession of a firearm by a minor.

The parents should also be charged for allowing their child access to a loaded, unsecured firearm.
