A 19-year-old father, Jordan Gardner, is facing felony charges after his 18-day-old infant was found struggling to breathe at an apartment in New Bern, North Carolina.
According to police reports, officers were called to Wind Hill Court at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, January 26. When they arrived, they discovered the child in severe distress and rushed the infant to CarolinaEast Medical Center. The situation was dire, as doctors worked quickly to stabilize the baby before transferring the infant to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for further treatment.
Medical professionals later confirmed the child suffered traumatic injuries, leading investigators to believe the infant had been subjected to abuse.
After further testing of the infant’s injuries, Gardner was arrested and charged with felony child abuse.
He is currently being held in jail on a $1 million secured bond, facing the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
