Sylva Police Arrest Man Accused of Setting Woman On Fire Over Beer
SYLVA, N.C. –A North Carolina man is behind bars under a $750,000 bond after Sylva police say he set a woman on fire because she wouldn’t get him a beer.
The scary incident happened early Friday morning, November 21, at a home on Chipper Curve Road in the mountain town of Sylva.
According to police, Patrick Erron Tyson threatened to burn the woman alive if she didn’t get him a beer. Investigators said an argument popped off inside the home before Tyson allegedly grabbed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, poured it onto the floor and the couch where the woman was sitting, and lit it on fire.
The flames burned the woman’s shirt completely off, but thankfully she was not injured. Sylva firefighters got to the home fast and managed to stop the blaze before it spread.
Police also said Tyson shattered the stove after hurling something at it in the chaos.
Once officers tracked Tyson down and arrested him, he was slapped with several serious charges:
-
Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
-
First-degree arson
-
Misdemeanor assault on a female
-
Misdemeanor injury to personal property
Tyson was booked into the Jackson County Jail, originally without bond, but later a judge set it at $750,000.
