According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning on Fort Run Road near Peanut Road, just west of Snow Hill.
Trooper A.H. Batchelor said an SUV was eastbound when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, swerved back onto the highway, and then ran off the left side, hitting a ditch—flipping multiple times in a peanut field.
Woman Thrown Into a Tree
Inside that SUV was 27-year-old Makaylah Dixon of Snow Hill. Investigators say Dixon was thrown from the vehicle during the crash, and her body was found six feet up in a tree.

Authorities are still working to determine whether Dixon was driving or a passenger at the time of the crash.
Locals Say Two Men Were Also Inside The Car, But Ran
Not long after , a woman named Whitney Newton shared a photo on Facebook Monday, showing two men who is believed to have been inside the vehicle with Dixon.
Newton wrote:
“If this photo ain posted on everybody that said she fucked y’all up with this one then delete your post right now and I said what I said. Me and MK hung out one time and when I tell you it was a time — she had the most kindest heart ever. #LLYouBabyGirl your justice is almost here.”
Newton’s post was shared more than 100 times, with locals claiming the two men allegedly ran from the crash scene, leaving Dixon behind.
Makaylah leaves behind a beautiful baby girl.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol has not released any additional details or confirmed who was driving.
The investigation remains active.
