A viral video shows a Salisbury Transit bus rolling with its back door wide open as a man in a wheelchair sits inches away.
SALISBURY, N.C. —Salisbury Transit got some explaining to do after a wild Facebook video hit timelines showing a city bus cruising through town with the entire back door open—and a man in a wheelchair sitting right in front of the open space like it was nothing.
The video, posted last week by Antoinette Wansley, has already blown up and the comment section was hotter than a July afternoon.
Wansley said what everybody was thinking: this was not safe, not normal, and definitely not okay.
“Before I started recording he was definitely speeding around the curve coming through Spencer,” she wrote on Facebook.
Wansley told the Salisbury Post that once she stopped recording, she actually caught up to the driver to warn him about the door being open. According to her, the driver finally pulled over and got off the bus—presumably to shut the door that should’ve never been swinging wide in the first place.
But Wansley made it clear she’s not trying to get anyone fired.
“I don’t want the man to lose his job. I just feel like he needs some extra safety training,” she said. “It’s more on the company that the vehicle didn’t have an alarm or was properly inspected.”
And let’s be real—riding around town with the rear door open like a trap house entrance is a liability waiting to happen.
The City of Salisbury quickly responded after the video started making noise.
“We take the safety of all passengers very seriously. We are actively investigating the situation and want to assure everyone that Salisbury Transit services remain safe,” the city posted.
Salisbury Community Engagement Director Anne Little doubled down, telling the public that the transit system remains safe and they’re looking into what went wrong.
