ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. –The Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tragic overnight incident in Stoneville after a local man was found dead in his backyard.
Deputies say they were called to a home on Brushy Mountain Road around 12:11 a.m. Saturday for a report of a death. When first responders arrived, they located 47-year-old Kenneth Dalton with severe burn injuries.
According to investigators, Dalton appears to have accidentally fallen into an active fire pit, suffering fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, the sheriff’s office says no foul play is suspected, but the investigation remains open as they await autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
