Hip-hop rappers Nelly and Snoop Dogg are set to take center stage at one of President-elect Donald Trump’s official inaugural balls on Monday, according to CNN.
The Grammy-winning artist, best known for his chart-topping hit “Hot In Herre,” isn’t letting public opinion stop him from grabbing the mic at the Liberty Ball, and neither is the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” artist, Snoop Dogg.
The performance is part of a lineup featuring several big names. Country music superstar Carrie Underwood will open the day’s festivities by performing “America the Beautiful”. Opera singer Christopher Macchio is slated to deliver the national anthem, and The Village People — whose song “Y.M.C.A.” has become a staple at Trump rallies — will also join the celebrations.
Nelly and Snoop’s decision to perform at a Trump event has sparked mixed reactions, particularly within the Black community. While some view it as an artist exercising his craft regardless of political affiliations, others have expressed disappointment, given Trump’s historically strained relationship with Black and minority communities.
Despite the controversy, Nelly has remained tight-lipped about his reasons for participating.
A Chilly Inauguration Day Ahead
Inauguration Day will see changes to tradition as an Arctic blast sends temperatures plummeting into the low 20s. Due to the extreme cold, the ceremony will move indoors to the Capitol, ensuring safety and comfort for attendees.
