Raleigh Karen Accused of Harassing Black Family after a North Carolina mother says her 19-year-old son was blocked and confronted while trying to throw away trash during a incident caught on video.
RALEIGH, N.C. — A North Carolina mother is speaking out after what she says was the final straw in a years-long pattern of harassment that ultimately pushed her family out of their home.
Tashauna told The North Carolina Beat that her 19-year-old son was allegedly blocked from throwing away trash by a neighbor during a confrontation caught on video Monday, March 23 in Falls River Condominiums.
According to Tashauna, her family had been living in a predominantly white apartment community in Falls River in Raleigh since 2020 after relocating from Greenville. She says what started as “light racism” escalated into what she describes as ongoing harassment.
“You can see that you’re being targeted a little bit,” Tashauna said. “But it wasn’t to this extent until she moved over there.”
The neighbor, identified as 39-year-old Jennifer Hanson of Durlain Drive, allegedly lived directly across the hall from Tashauna and her family and has been “for about two years,” Tashauna told us.

“Literally, if you walked out of my place, she’s right there,” Tashauna explained. “We moved — she pretty much forced us out, no lie.”
ALLEGED PATTERN OF HARASSMENT
Tashauna claims the issues didn’t start overnight. She alleges Hanson would leave cigarette butts on her car — despite her not being a smoker — and would go out of her way to confront the family, even when Tashauna wasn’t home.
During one incident while Tashauna was in Atlanta, she says Hanson was trying to provoker her son.
“I told my son, if she keeps doing this, start recording her,” Tashauna said. “Because I don’t know why she’s so obsessed with us.”
VIDEO SHOWS DUMPSTER CONFRONTATION
That advice paid off.
In the video posted, Tashauna’s 19-year-old son can be seen attempting to throw away household items — as the family prepared to move out.
That’s when things got hostile.
Hanson is seen and heard confronting the teen, standing near the dumpster and questioning what was being thrown away. At one point, she appears to block access while insisting the items were not “trash” and should be taken elsewhere.
“I’m trying to put this trash inside this trash can, and this lady is being weird,” the teen says in the video.
Despite remaining relatively calm, the situation intensifies as Hanson allegedly calls property management and continues to challenge him.
“You need to move your stuff… You have to pay for this stuff to get moved,” Hanson is heard saying.

The teen repeatedly insists they are simply disposing of trash while moving out.
“We’re moving because of you,” he says at one point.
“YOU PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME”
The confrontation takes an even more serious turn when the teen accuses Hanson of getting physical earlier.
“You put your hands on me,” he says multiple times during the exchange.
It is unclear from the video alone whether physical contact occurred, but the accusation is clearly heard. Meanwhile, Hanson is heard making comments about “rules,” fees, and maintaining the appearance of the community.
“I’m actually trying to make our community look nice. Your family’s trashing it,” she says.
At one point, she also tells the teen:
“I know you’re a kid and you don’t understand how things work.”
The teen responds:
“I’m 19.”
Tashauna said they had opportunities to pursue legal action but chose to keep the peace, adding that the last incident could have resulted in Hanson going to jail — but they were already moving before April 1.
