Pregnant Charlotte woman murders boyfriend
Charlotte is behind bars after police say she fatally stabbed her Pregnant Charlotte woman murders boyfriend during a domestic dispute early Monday morning. The suspect, 20-year-old Maya Jones, is accused of murdering 20-year-old Shamaree Bell Brown on March 24 at a residence on Burkland Drive, according to the court documents.
Court documents obtained by The North Carolina News reveal that this was not the first domestic incident involving the couple.
Records show that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were previously dispatched to the same address on Burkland Drive in December 2024 for a reported domestic altercation between Jones and Brown.

At that time, Maya Jones told officers the dispute began over Shamaree “liking other female social media pictures.” The argument allegedly escalated when Jones began throwing out Brown’s belongings. She claimed Brown grabbed her by the arms and shook her. During the confrontation, Jones—holding a glass cup—attempted to hit Brown but accidentally struck herself in the face, causing visible injuries, according to court filings.
Brown gave a different account, telling officers that Jones attacked him by grabbing his shirt and neck and scratching his chest and neck. He stated he never physically assaulted Jones, but admitted to getting into a physical fight with her brother, who had intervened.

Three months later, police were once again called to the same residence—this time for a deadly outcome.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon resulting in injury. Upon arrival, they discovered Brown suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Jones was taken into custody.
A witness told police that they were asleep when another resident informed them that Jones and Brown were fighting downstairs. The witness said they observed Brown holding Jones’s arms in an attempt to restrain her, while she had a knife in her hand. As the witness tried to intervene, they saw Jones stab Brown in the chest.
During an interview with investigators, Jones admitted that she and Brown had gotten into an argument. She said she went to the kitchen, retrieved a knife, and hit Brown while holding it. She claimed Brown began to strangle her, prompting her to stab him. Jones told officers she attempted to stab him a second time during the struggle.

She also informed police that she is currently three to four months pregnant.
Jones has been charged with murder and is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond.
