A family in North Carolina is worried as they search for their missing loved one, 33-year-old Shenequa Shantol McMillian, and her four children, Egypt Lauren McMillian, Kairo London McMillian, Leilahni Rose McMillian and Leilah Skye McMillian.
Shenequa’s sister, De’Shanta McMillian, shared with The North Carolina Beat that the family is in the dark about her whereabouts, with their father last physically seeing her back in June when he was working on her car in Raleigh.
The situation took a troubling turn when their father received a text message from Shenequa’s phone between July and August, asking for money to buy a bus ticket back to Lumberton from Jacksonville, Florida.
“My parents drove to Raleigh in a storm, expecting her and her children to get off the bus. When they got there, they were not there,” De’Shanta said. “We don’t even know if it was her that sent the text.”
She said her sister never miss birthdays. Their mother recently had a birthday on August 2nd, and no one heard from Shenequa. De’Shanta said her sister would “either call, leave voice messages, or get in contact with them” somehow but no one has heard from or seen her.
Shenequa and her children moved to Florida with her husband, Regis Carpenter, in July, according to a TikTok account, where Shenequa was documenting their new journey, provided to us by De’Shanta.
The TikTok account has since been deleted.
De’Shanta said that on Wednesday, she spoke to Regis Carpenter’s mom, thinking that she may have heard from him but she hadn’t physically seen him, only spoken to him through text.
“She told me the only encounter she has with him is through text messages,” said De’Shanta. “She said she hadn’t seen him or heard from him personally…but she has confirmed that she hasn’t seen or heard my sister’s voice since July because she would normally call and speak to the children.”
