A disturbing video is circulating online that shows a Hickory, North Carolina man, Mark Douglas White, holding a woman hostage at gunpoint in Indianapolis. In the video, White can be seen pressing a firearm against the head of 21-year-old Tashauna Gooch, while threatening her.
Authorities have since taken White into custody, and he now faces multiple charges related to the incident. The altercation took place on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, around 8 p.m. at the Speedway gas station on E. 56th Street. Officers responded to reports of a “white male holding a Black female at gunpoint” and quickly apprehended the 60-year-old man.
He was charged with strangulation, intimidation, battery, pointing a loaded firearm, and other offenses, as reported by local outlet Fox 59.
In the viral video shared by Kevin Edwards on Facebook, White, armed with a large silver pistol, corners the woman in her vehicle. After she stands up, White pushes her against the car, continuing to threaten her with the gun.
“Don’t put your gun in my face,” the woman is heard shouting. She then turns to Edwards and says, “call the cops.” Edwards later told FOX59/CBS4 that the woman didn’t show any signs of aggression during the exchange.
“HE DEFINITELY TOOK IT TO THE EXTREME,” Edwards commented in an interview with FOX59/CBS4.
The video shows multiple bystanders yelling at White to put the gun away while he threatens to shoot the woman at point-blank range. The footage then zooms out to reveal White’s 2015 Dodge Ram parked next to the woman’s 2017 Chevy Impala.
White continues to push the woman against her car, ignoring the pleas of bystanders. After a tense minute, White begins walking toward his truck, but turns back and again points the gun at her. He follows her movements, continuing to threaten her as the woman yells at him.
When police arrived on the scene, they found White and the woman still near the gas pumps. Officers ordered both individuals to show their hands, and White was seen holding the gun before dropping it into his truck bed. The woman informed the police that she also had a handgun in her possession, which was later found in her vehicle.
According to the woman’s account, she had parked next to an out-of-service gas pump when White honked at her repeatedly. After she moved her car, she got out and confronted White. The two began arguing, and the woman said White approached her aggressively.
In response, she pulled out her gun, keeping it by her side. White then allegedly said, “I got a way bigger firearm” before retrieving the silver handgun from his truck.
“There’s no need for a way bigger firearm,” the woman attempted to de-escalate the situation.
“I will kill you,” White reportedly replied before grabbing the woman by the throat, strangling her, and pointing the gun at her head. He also allegedly struck her with the gun during the confrontation. The woman told officers that she never pointed her handgun at White, and White confirmed this during his interview with police.
White’s version of events differed. He said that after honking at the woman, she approached him with her gun in hand. He claimed he told her to “put that gun away” before retrieving his own weapon.
White then said he walked the woman back to her car at gunpoint, threatening to kill her in the process. He admitted to trying to wrestle her gun away but denied that she ever pointed it at him. Police also observed scratch marks on the woman’s neck and head, consistent with the assault.
In White’s truck bed, officers discovered the silver Smith and Wesson Springfield 10mm handgun, which was later booked into evidence. Following the investigation, White was booked into the Marion County Jail without further incident. White faces the following charges:
- Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
- Battery with a Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
- Strangulation – Level 6 Felony
- Pointing a Loaded Firearm – Level 6 Felony
- Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury – Class A Misdemeanor
- Criminal Recklessness – Class B Misdemeanor
His next court date is on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 9 a.m. and bond was set at $30,000.
