A Davidson County family says they are living a nightmare after their next-door neighbor allegedly shot and killed their dog in broad daylight — right on their own back porch.

Lakevia Threatt told The North Carolina Beat that the heartbreaking incident happened Friday afternoon, January 2, 2026, while her fiancé took their daughter to get her hair done.

According to Threatt, their dog — 2-year-old Cane Corso Rock named Brixx Disel Fisher — was left on the back porch for a short time so he wouldn’t have to be placed in a cage.

Brixx Disel Fisher was a 2-year-old Cane Corso described by his family as gentle, protective, and deeply loved before being shot on his back porch.

“Dad had let him outside on the back porch while he took our daughter to get her hair done so he wouldn’t be in the cage,” Threatt said. “If you look at the video, we have grills in front so he wouldn’t get out because he wasn’t going to be out that long.”

Threatt said when her fiancé, Jimmy Fisher, returned home, he began calling for Brixx — something that usually resulted in the dog running inside immediately.

But this time was different.

She said when the door was opened, their “baby boy” was found dead on their own back porch.

The body of Brixx Disel Fisher was found on the family’s back porch in Davidson County after a neighbor allegedly shot the dog in broad daylight.

“My fiancé was like, ‘Boy, get up,’” Threatt said emotionally. “When he got closer, you could see the blood. We have cameras everywhere because we are the only ones that look like us in our neighborhood. Once we rolled the cameras back, that’s what we saw.”

Home surveillance footage provided to The North Carolina Beat allegedly shows Brixx standing in his own yard, on his own back porch, barking — moments before he was shot.

Brixx, a Cane Corso living in Davidson County, was known as a family dog who stayed close to home and was never aggressive, according to his owners.

The North Carolina Beat has identified the alleged neighbor as 63-year-old Dean Scott Campbell, the owner of Carolina Colt Firearms in Lexington, North Carolina.

Dean Scott Campbell, a Davidson County neighbor and Lexington business owner, was identified by the family as the person who allegedly shot their dog.

According to Campbell’s Facebook page, he is also listed as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.

Threatt said when she and her fiancé reviewed additional camera angles, they noticed two stray dogs on their property at the time Brixx was barking.

“You can see the other dogs in our yard on the side of the neighbor, and then you see our dog barking, and then you see him get shot,” Threat said. “But the other two dogs never got shot, but they were loose.”

Threatt said her family has had ongoing issues with Campbell over Brixx barking.

She recalled a prior incident last year when Campbell allegedly fired a gun into the air to stop the dog from barking. According to Threatt, Campbell told deputies he was shooting at a squirrel.

She said police reports were made regarding the alleged harassment, but no action was taken.

During The North Carolina Beat’s investigation, Campbell was identified and shown to Threatt.

When she saw his photo, she responded:

“I’m feeling nauseous. Yeah — that’s him.”

She said Jimmy contacted animal control after the shooting. Once animal control arrived, viewed Brixx’s body, and watched the video, they contacted the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Threatt said she was on video call with her fiancé when deputies arrived at the scene.

According to Threatt, deputies attempted to make contact with Campbell, but she said he turned his lights off and spoke to them through a window.

Threatt said deputies told her family they could not arrest Campbell because he could not be seen in the video and that they would have to wait until Monday to file criminal charges.

She said the footage clearly shows the shot came from the direction of Campbell’s home.

“It’s coming directly from his way,” Threat said. “If he would have been anywhere near the fence, we would’ve been able to see him on the actual footage.”

An emotionally devastated Threatt said the loss has been unbearable.

“I lost a child,” she said.

She added that the situation is even more frightening given the circumstances.

“It was bright in broad daylight in our backyard,” Threatt said. “I can see if he was running free. He gets scared because he’s just a big boy anyway, so people are instantly scared of him, and he feeds off people’s energy. If you act scared toward him, he’s going to act scared toward you. He’s a Cane Corso Rock, so he’s a natural protector — but he’s not vicious at all.”

Threatt said the thought of her children discovering Brixx’s body is haunting.

“It scares me because my kids could have found him,” she said through tears.

Why not firing into an occupied residence. Anyone, including a child, could have stepped on that deck at any time

  2. Louise do you know how ignorant you are to read something and STILL get it wrong? Reading wasn’t your strong point in school was it? It says Cane Corso multiple times in the article. How in the HELL or should I say where in HELL did you come up with POIT BULL? Just dumb on so many levels!!

  3. He needs to be charged with murder of a family pet animal cruelty 50,000 dollars to be donated to animal shelter and 20 year prison sentence without parole.

This is crazy. I’m glad we are surrounded by family and friends. We have a pit bull and if she goes anywhere out of our yard I don’y have to worry about her being shot. They just send her home and vice versa when their dog wanders into my yard.

  5. Michael Vick went to a federal prison for 2 years prison sentence for dog fighting. Dean Campbell, had shot and killed a innocent dog that was not any threat to Dean Campbell. Dean, just did not only kill the dog for barking. Dean killed the dog as a warning. Because his neighbor is people of color. Yes! He needs to go to prison. For murder and terrorism.

    1. He needs to be shot the same way .. people make me sick how they treat animals . He could have had a decent adult conversation with the owners. Watch the piece of trash get away with it.

      1. He already has. A 3500 dollar bond is a lot of BS. The bottom line is this is a hard working family raising their children in a town that has been known for people of color to get the a*s end of justice when it comes to Davidson County Sheriff dep.

It seems to me that the proper approach for the police to have handled is this: have the coroner or vet remove the bullet and do a ballistics check. Then run a check on the supposed shooter and see if the caliber of the weapon used is owned by the neighbor. If so, then test fire this weapon and compare with the ballistics report. If it’s a match, then criminal charges need to be filed.

  7. I’m so sorry this happened to you and your family. He definitely needs to be held accountable for his actions!! This is scarey cause what if kids had been in the backyard and God forbid he shot one of them!! Would the police of charged him then??!!

  8. I hope they recovered the bullet and can prove it was that neighbor. He at the very least can be charged with firing towards a dwelling. The bullet could have killed an occupant.

EXACTLY !!! That (neighbor) definitely needs to be charged somehow/someway. What he did was horrible, and he needs to be punished severely !!!
