A NC woman in Montgomery County is being held without release after a judge imposed a $2 million secured bond in the child abuse and kidnapping case.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, N.C. – A Montgomery County woman is sitting behind bars on a $2 million secured bond after investigators say her alleged abuse of two children crossed into disturbing and criminal territory.

Krista Marie Freeman appeared in Montgomery County District Court on Thursday, December 18, 2025, following her arrest on multiple felony charges tied to kidnapping and child abuse.

According to the warrants, Freeman is accused of unlawfully confining two individuals identified as “DH” and “NW,” both over the age of 16, without their consent.

The charging documents allege Freeman confined and restrained the victims “for the purpose of holding them in involuntary servitude and terrorizing them,” according to kidnapping warrants.

Each count of second-degree kidnapping is charged separately — one for each alleged victim.

CHILD ABUSE WARRANTS DETAIL EXTREME CONFINEMENT

The child abuse warrants outline far more graphic allegations.

According to the charging text, investigators allege Freeman locked DH inside a bedroom for weeks at a time, securing the door shut using a drill, screws, and plywood. The warrants state DH was only allowed out to feed dogs or use the bathroom, and when bathroom use was permitted, Freeman allegedly escorted him and provided no privacy.

The warrants further allege food was passed through the doorway, and that Freeman struck DH with an open hand and threw a pot at him, striking his lower back and causing a bruise that reportedly lasted weeks.

One warrant states that DH’s sister disclosed Freeman wrapped a dog leash around DH’s neck and dragged him around the house, according to the charging documents.

In a separate felony child abuse count, the warrants allege Freeman locked NW inside a bedroom for up to two days at a time. According to the documents, NW was sometimes denied access to the bathroom entirely, and food was also passed through the door.

The warrant further alleges Freeman ordered NW to burn DH’s clothing and threatened that she would harm NW’s mother if the child did not comply.

Freeman is facing two counts of second-degree kidnapping and two counts of felony negligent child abuse causing serious physical injury — charges that stem from what detectives describe as a pattern of prolonged confinement and intimidation inside the home.

She remains in jail.
