A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper in Person County is facing serious legal and professional consequences after being charged with multiple domestic violence-related offenses involving his ex-girlfriend.
NC Trooper Charged With Domestic Violence
According to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), 45-year-old Trooper Mark Steven Melvin, a resident of Roxboro, was arrested on May 22, 2025. He is now facing charges of misdemeanor domestic violence, assault inflicting serious injury, and assault on a female, stemming from a disturbing incident that occurred on April 8.

Investigators say Melvin used physical force against his then-girlfriend during an argument, forcefully twisting her hand to grab her cellphone. The violent action caused a serious injury to her left ring finger, which later required surgical intervention.
As of May 7, Melvin has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of both the criminal case and an internal investigation being conducted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The agency has acknowledged the charges and confirmed that Melvin’s duty status has been adjusted accordingly.
Melvin has worked with the State Highway Patrol for over 10 years, primarily patrolling Person County. However, this isn’t the first time he’s come under scrutiny. In 2021, he was previously investigated after posting controversial comments on Facebook, referring to the Black Lives Matter movement as a “racist money laundering hate group.”

Now that this case is “over”, well for the moment. 😉 Just wanted to update everyone – I’m the ex girlfriend whose finger this state trooper broke, causing me to have surgery. The SBI conducted an interview with me, as well as internal affairs at the high way patrol station. The SBI interviewed this state trooper in which the state trooper admitted to being angry and forcing my phone out of my hand, proceeding to throw my phone across his kitchen shattering it. Yes, that state trooper admitted that!
The SBI charged this state trooper with three different charges. It took from May until October for the special prosecutor to contact me to introduce herself. She asked a few questions and advised me that she’d follow up with me and interview me before this went to trial. I NEVER SPOKE TO THAT PROSECUTOR AGAIN until 3/11/2026 when I met her in court to speak to her before I had to testify.
The judge who was granted this case was not there for the trial, it was a different judge. The judge that heard this trial found him not guilty because of the charges that he was charged with. Apparently she would have found him guilty had it of been different charges? HAH! The judge never asked for any evidence, but found him not guilty even after admitting to doing it.
That day when court was over that same judge started watching my fb stories, as well as the private investigator he hired, several Person County lawyers, a district attorney of Person County, State Troopers, a magistrate of Person County. For what? Y’all found him “not guilty” and you’re going to continue watching what I do.
Okay. If you made it this far reading this comment, here’s the crazy part about this…… the protective order is still in place but that day after court, his lawyer called my lawyer and told her that they have $25,000 in their trust account if I would agree to drop the protective order and keep quite so he could be back on the streets patrolling. 🤔 Who pays someone to “keep quiet” if you claimed you did not commit a domestic violence crime.
This case was most definitely swept under the rug, and everyone involved most definitely needs to be investigated.
