Republican NC Senator Norman Sanderson BUSTED for DWI in Raleigh – Blew Double The Legal Limit

The political circle in Raleigh were talking Saturday after Senator Norman Sanderson, of Arapahoe, a well-known Republican representing Eastern North Carolina, got snatched up by police for driving while impaired (DWI).

According to court documents, the 74-year-old senator’s blood alcohol level was a wild 0.16, which is twice the legal limit in North Carolina.

Who Is Norman Sanderson?

For those who might not know, Sanderson represents District 2, covering Carteret, Chowan, Halifax, Hyde, Martin, Pamlico, Warren, and Washington counties.





He’s been in the political game for years, holding leadership spots on big committees like budget and agriculture.

But after this weekend, that “leadership” looking real questionable.

In a statement to ABC 11 WTVD, after the arrest, Sanderson said:

“Last night I made a regrettable mistake, and I take responsibility for my actions. I want to apologize to my constituents, my colleagues, and my family for letting them down.”

The Republican senator was stopped near Edwards Mill Road and Trinity Road in Raleigh. Police say Sanderson’s was charged with DWI, transporting an open container, and failing to obey a traffic officer.
