North Carolina lawmaker Cecil Brockman faces four felony sex charges involving a 15-year-old as political leaders from both parties call for his resignation.
Cecil Antonio Brockman, a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, was arrested Wednesday and charged with multiple sex offenses involving a 15-year-old minor, according to court and sheriff’s office records.
According to the arrest warrant, Brockman “engaged in a sexual act” with a 15-year-old on August 15 of this year.
He’s facing four felony charges:
-
2 counts of statutory rape of a minor aged 13–15
-
2 counts of indecent liberties with a child
Court records also reveal that a magistrate denied bond, citing concerns that Brockman has “access to resources that could facilitate flight.”
The warrant further alleges that he tried to locate the juvenile in the hospital and used his political status to gain sensitive information about the victim’s whereabouts.
Brockman is currently booked into the High Point Detention Center and is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday.
Brockman has represented House District 60 — covering parts of Guilford County, North Carolina, including High Point, North Carolina — since 2015.
While a Democrat, he’s known for occasionally breaking with party leadership on key votes, which has caused friction inside the caucus.
His arrest has now created a major political storm in Raleigh.
