NC Man Mauled to Death by Pack of Dogs in Davidson County
DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina neighborhood turned into a horror scene after a 73-year-old man was brutally mauled to death by what investigators describe as a “large pack of canines” — and now the dogs’ owner is facing a murder charge.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Bodenheimer was found unresponsive in his front yard at 201 Jeanette Lane in Thomasville on Nov. 18. First responders say his injuries were so severe that life-saving efforts were no longer possible.

Investigators quickly determined the injuries were consistent with an attack carried out by a large group of aggressive dogs. Deputies say the dogs were located at a nearby property, where animal control encountered a massive and dangerous situation.
Authorities ultimately captured 17 dogs, identified as mixed-breed pit bulls. The animals were euthanized and transported to a local veterinary facility, where necropsies were conducted.
Those examinations, combined with the autopsy results, confirmed investigators’ suspicions: Bodenheimer died from injuries sustained during the canine mauling.
Following the investigation, deputies identified 56-year-old Elaina Bryant as the owner of the dogs.

Authorities determined Bryant was grossly negligent in the care and control of the animals. She has since been charged with second-degree murder and 10 counts of felony animal abuse.
As the community continues to process the shocking loss, Bodenheimer’s family released an emotional statement:
“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of our father. He was deeply loved, and his absence has left a pain that words cannot fully express.
We are aware that charges have been filed in connection with his death. At this time, we ask for privacy as we continue to grieve and support one another. We have full confidence in the legal process and will allow it to move forward without further comment.
Our focus remains on honoring our father’s life, his values, and the love he shared with those around him. We appreciate the support, prayers, and kindness that have been extended to our family during this incredibly difficult time.”
The case remains one ongoing.
