Comedian and Academy Award-winning actress Mo’Nique has reignited her long-standing feud with filmmaker Tyler Perry following his emotional speech at the funeral of singer Angie Stone. During the service, Perry voiced his anger over the mistreatment Stone endured throughout her music career, particularly the financial injustices she faced.

Instead of allowing the moment to be about Stone’s legacy and the injustices she faced in the music industry, Mo’Nique used the occasion to air out her own grievances…again.

Mo’Nique took to Instagram to call out what she perceives as hypocrisy in Perry’s speech. While offering condolences to Stone’s family, she stated that Perry’s speech made her and her husband, Sidney Hicks, reflect on their own experiences of unfair treatment.

Mo’Nique made several points where she believes Perry has acted contrary to his public stance on fairness and justice. In her post, Mo’Nique criticized Perry for allegedly calling her “difficult to work with” despite never having worked with her directly, questioning how he could advocate for better treatment of artists while allegedly participating in the same behavior.

In another point, Mo’Nique referenced a public apology Perry promised her in 2016 but never delivered. She claimed the false narratives he helped spread contributed to her being blackballed in Hollywood, leading to financial losses amounting to tens of millions of dollars. She framed this as a double standard, pointing out how Perry now condemns the exploitation of artists while allegedly participating in similar practices. In her last point, Mo’Nique challenged Perry’s standing as a man of faith, questioning whether he was truly living up to the values he preached.

She referenced the biblical passage Mark 8:36, asking:

“What will it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?”

This latest public criticism is part of an ongoing conflict between Mo’Nique and Tyler Perry, which traces back to her 2009 role in “Precious.” Mo’Nique has long claimed that her refusal to do unpaid promotional work for the film led to industry backlash, with Perry, Oprah Winfrey, and Lee Daniels allegedly influencing the perception that she was difficult to work with.

Tyler Perry has not publicly responded to Mo’Nique’s renewed accusations.
