The boyfriend of a 22-year-old mother, who was found dead along with her 4-year-old daughter and 7-month-old son, has been arrested in California.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief confirmed Saturday, that 22-year-old Markayla Johnson and her two children, Miracle Johnson, 4, and 7-month-old Messiah Johnson, who had been missing since March 3, were tragically found deceased inside their home on Friday afternoon. The discovery was made around 1:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Orchard Trace Lane, off Reagan Drive, following the execution of a search warrant by the police.
Law enforcement officials were searching for a man suspected to be Markayla’s boyfriend.
On Sunday, the police announced that 35-year-old Benjamin Joseph Taylor was apprehended on Saturday in Imperial County, California, close to the Mexico border, as reported by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Taylor faces charges of three counts of murder and one count of concealing a death. He is currently awaiting extradition to North Carolina, with no motive disclosed at this time.
“We’re going to do everything we can to bring closure to family and find the person responsible for these murders,” Cheif Jennings said.
The medical examiner will officially confirm the identities of the three individuals on Monday.
The police have not provided any additional information at this time.
